    Aesthetics

Having had the opportunity to explore the design and build of the ROG Strix B760-G Gaming Wi-Fi D4 motherboard, I must say that ASUS has once again impressed me with their attention to detail.

ASUS has struck a good balance with the RGB lighting on this board. It’s not overwhelming or excessive, which is a welcome departure from the brand’s reputation for going all out with RGB lighting. I particularly appreciate the ability to customize the RGB ROG logo using Aura Sync, adding a personalized touch to my PC build. Overall, the aesthetic is pleasing, and I believe many consumers will appreciate the alternative look.

In terms of the physical design, the ROG Strix B760-G showcases ASUS’s commitment to both durability and visual appeal. The B760-G brings its own unique flair with its white and silver heatsinks adorned with various ROG STRIX logos. The robust all-black PCB provides a solid foundation, while the contrasting accents offer a touch of elegance that can complement a wide range of white and silver-themed custom builds. I must say that the inclusion of retro gaming insignias is a delightful touch, adding a dash of nostalgia and classic Strix style to the overall design. It’s these small yet significant details that makes the B760-G a motherboard worth considering in my books.

As expected from the ROG series, the B760-G incorporates signature elements such as diagonal slats, brushed aluminum heatsinks, and the impressive Aura Sync RGB lighting. These features have become synonymous with the ROG identity and are instantly recognizable. Beyond their aesthetic appeal, the diagonal slats also contribute to the cooling performance, ensuring that the relevant hardware components remain cool even during intense gaming sessions.

One of the standout features of the ROG Strix B760-G is the inclusion of Aura Sync. As an enthusiast of ASUS products, Aura Sync has always been a personal favorite of mine. It provides complete control over the lighting effects, allowing me to tailor the RGB lighting to suit my preferences and desired ambiance. Whether I wanted a vibrant and dynamic lighting scheme to match the excitement of my gaming sessions or a more subdued and relaxing setup, the possibilities were endless. Furthermore, the synchronization capabilities of Aura Sync allowed me to create a unified and immersive experience by syncing the lighting effects across compatible ROG products, such as GPUs, monitors, keyboards, and mice.

    Features and Compatibility

When it comes to the B760 chipset, it is often associated with budget-friendly options for Intel motherboards. Typically, this chipset offers fewer PCIe lanes, lacks CPU overclocking support, provides a slightly lower number of USB ports, and may have a less robust VRM configuration. However, the ROG Strix B760-G Gaming Wi-Fi D4 breaks away from these limitations and delivers features and compatibility that defy expectations.

    Power Configuration

In contrast to the majority of B760 motherboards, the ROG Strix B760-G Gaming Wi-Fi D4 stands out with its impressive power delivery system. Beneath the VRM heatsinks lie 12 + 1 power stages, each capable of handling up to 60A. This robust power configuration ensures an abundant and stable current supply, effortlessly supporting even the most demanding workloads of the Intel i7 13700.

Although the power delivery of the ROG Strix B760-G Gaming Wi-Fi D4 motherboard is robust, it is important to note that I do not recommend pairing it with any i9 processors. The i9 series typically demands a significant amount of power, which may exceed the capabilities of this motherboard. In addition, it is worth noting that while the K processors can be used with the ROG Strix B760-G Gaming Wi-Fi D4 motherboard, they may not be the most suitable choice. This is because the motherboard does not support CPU overclocking, a feature that is often desired when utilizing K processors to unleash their full potential.

    XMP & OPTIMEM II

When it comes to memory performance, the ROG Strix B760-G Gaming Wi-Fi D4 motherboard truly excels with the introduction of OPTIMEM II. As an experienced user, I was thrilled to dive into the UEFI and explore the extensive range of tuning options available. With my pair of Kingston FURY Renegade DDR4 modules, I was able to put the motherboard’s capabilities to the test. Thanks to improved signal routing, the motherboard delivered exceptional stability and impressive speeds of up to 3600 MHz when utilizing the XMP profile. I even ventured into manual overclocking, pushing the limits further with great stability, but I’ll save the details of that experience for a dedicated article focusing on the RAM modules themselves.

    Q-Release and Q-Latch

Similar to other modern ASUS motherboards, the ROG Strix B760-G is equipped with the convenient Q-Release and Q-Latch features. While it’s true that personal preferences may vary, I personally find these two features to be highly beneficial. In a completed build where space can become congested, the Q-Release feature makes GPU replacement incredibly easy and hassle-free. Gone are the days of struggling with PCIe or worrying about damaging components with a screwdriver. Additionally, the Q-Latch feature eliminates the need for the small and easily misplaced M.2 locking screw. Instead, it introduces a simple twist and turn latch mechanism, preventing the dreaded scenario of losing a tiny screw within a cramped case.

    PCIe Gen 5

The ROG STRIX B760-G Gaming Wi-Fi D4 motherboard’s support for the new Gen5 standard not only offers compatibility with current components but also presents an opportunity for future upgrades.

While PCI-E Gen5 products may not be widely available yet, having a motherboard equipped with a PCI-E 5.0 slot gives me a sense of preparedness for what lies ahead. As new generations of SSD & graphics cards enter the market, I can rest assured that my system is capable of harnessing their full potential. This level of future-proofing is essential to me as it allows me to stay at the forefront of technology and make the most out of upcoming advancements.

    Rear IO and Expansion Options

I must say that the rear IO connectivity options truly impressed me. This motherboard offers a wide range of ports and features, providing exceptional versatility and convenience.

Let’s start with the USB connectivity, which is abundant on this motherboard. With a total of nine USB ports on the rear IO, I found myself with plenty of options for connecting my peripherals. The inclusion of one USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 port with a USB Type-C® connector, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 port with a Type-A connector, three USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports (two Type-A and one USB Type-C®), and four USB 2.0 ports gave me the freedom to connect various devices without any limitations.

Moreover, the internal connectors for USB further enhanced the connectivity options. The USB 3.2 Gen 2 connector with support for USB Type-C® allowed me to easily connect front panel USB Type-C® ports, expanding the accessibility of fast USB connectivity. Additionally, the USB 3.2 Gen 1 header provided two additional USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, and the two USB 2.0 headers supported four additional USB 2.0 ports, giving me even more flexibility to expand my system’s USB capabilities.

When it comes to networking, the ROG STRIX B760-G didn’t disappoint. The inclusion of a Wi-Fi 6E module Intel® 2.5Gb Ethernet port allowed me to enjoy high-speed wireless connectivity, ensuring a smooth and reliable network connection.

Moving on to audio, the rear IO of this motherboard offered a comprehensive suite of audio jacks, delivering exceptional sound quality. The absence of an S/PDIF Out header on the rear IO was a minor drawback, but it didn’t significantly impact my overall audio experience.

In terms of cooling, the ROG STRIX B760-G provided ample options to keep my system running cool and stable. The CPU Fan header, CPU OPT Fan header, AIO Pump header, and two Chassis Fan headers allowed me to connect and control fans and cooling solutions, ensuring efficient heat dissipation and optimal temperature management for my components. The ability to control and fine-tune the cooling setup via Armoury Crate was a definite bonus, giving me the freedom to customize my system’s cooling performance.

Finally, the motherboard’s miscellaneous connectors, including Addressable Gen 2 headers for customizable RGB lighting, an AURA RGB header for additional RGB lighting control, a Clear CMOS header for easy system reset, a Front Panel Audio header (AAFP), an S/PDIF Out header for digital audio connectivity, a 20-3 pin System Panel header with Chassis intrude function, and a Thermal Sensor header, further enhanced the functionality and customization options of the motherboard. Additionally, the inclusion of a Thunderbolt™ (USB4®) header opened up possibilities for future expandability.

What I Loved About this Motherboard

    • Departing from the typical “techy design” that ROG is known for, this motherboard incorporates retro gaming details that add a unique and eye-catching element.
    • A heatsink with ARGB features on a B series motherboard is a rare find!
    • Fully equipped rear IO panel.
    • Sometimes, simple is good. In this case, the Q-LED feature provides a quick and easy onboard diagnosis over the pesky 2 digit numerical option.

    What I Wish Was Better

    • While the design is refreshing, I wished this motherboard came with a more extensive heatsink to cover the bare areas.
    • With the features already available, I’d prefer it to come with 3 x M.2 slots and do away with one less PCIe 4.0 x 1
