That said, this has not stop many of these cancelled events on taking up a new approach. It is a good chance for many to adapt and adopt to new ways into bringing everyone together. While E3 is cancelled, that does not mean there won’t be any new breakthrough announcements in the gaming industry.

    Geoff Keighley

On May 1st, Geoff Keighly, known throughout in the industry as well to many gamers around the world has announced a new event where all new presentations be made to the public. The Summer Game Fest was unveiled and made known to the entire world. Keighley and with the help and expertise of Iam8bit have collectively gathered many video game industry leaders in order to make this event come to fruition.

What is SGF (Summer Game Fest)?

For starters, it is basically a hub of all games where developers and publishers are able to make their announcements and presentation live worldwide. The SGF website acts as the middle online platform where all the scheduled new information be made. It will be easier to think of this almost akin to a Nintendo Direct announcement except with much larger showing and audience.

Geoff Keighly call it a seasonal event rather than a singular one. Touted as an “industry-wide celebration of gaming” event, SGF will be running in the span of 4 months.

Taking it’s 4 month duration period into consideration, SGF is not meant to be another gaming news website nor it is actually fill the E3 void. In a recent AMA at Reddit, Geoff mentions that doing a big digital interactive festival has always been a dream of his. It has always been in the pipeline. The recent COVID-19 push those plans earlier than expected and with the cancellation of E3, things seems to fell in place for him.

The Summer Game Fest will focus on a few key things when it comes to gaming news:

    • Publisher News Events
    • In-Game Events
    • Playable Content and Demos

Anyone that is familiar with E3 knows that there will always playable booth demos. It seems we will be getting game demos through major gaming platform stores. Hence everyone is advised to get their PSN, Xbox and other platform accounts ready just in case. The prospect of playing new content right at home is super exciting.

For PC gamers, Steam has also prepped up for it’s Steam Game Festival: Summer Edition in conjunction with the SGF as many of playable demos will appear there.

    So whos on board?

It has already been mentioned that many industry leaders will be coming on this event. Furthermore, the line-up for phase 1 has already been announced. Many of which includes big publishers and developers including Blizzard, Square Enix, CD Projekt and Bandai Namco to name a few. The most notable ones are definitely Sony and Microsoft as many are eager to know more of their next-gen consoles.

In addition, it seems this coming Thursday there will be more info in regards to Xbox Series X.

    When and where?

While a proper scheduled timing has yet to be announced but according to Geoff, it will be soon up through the SGF website.

In addition, every event will be streamed live through all major social medias on YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, Twitter and Mixer.
