What is Pokémon Day?
The first games in the Pokémon series, Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green were released in Japan on February 27, 1996. For the Pokémon brand that was born from these games, this was a day of beginnings truly worth commemorating. February 27 has come to be known and celebrated by fans outside Japan as Pokémon Day.
To spread awareness of the special day in Japan as well, the Pokémon Company has set February 27 as Pokémon Day and had the anniversary recognized by the Japan Anniversary Association. In establishing this special day, we hope to express our gratitude for everyone who has supported Pokémon over the years.
