Samsung has expanded its consumer SSD portfolio with the introduction of the SSD 990 EVO. As a leading entity in advanced memory technology, Samsung’s latest NVMe SSD is engineered to boost performance for a wide array of computing activities, including gaming, business workflows, and creative processes, with enhanced power efficiency and interface flexibility.
Hangu Sohn, Vice President of Memory Brand Product Biz Team at Samsung Electronics, highlighted the company’s focus on optimizing SSD solutions through advanced memory technologies. The 990 EVO is designed to offer a balanced mix of performance, energy efficiency, and reliability, catering to the needs of various computing tasks.
The new SSD 990 EVO showcases a significant performance increase of up to 43% over its predecessor, the 970 EVO Plus. It achieves sequential read and write speeds of up to 5,000 MB/s and 4,200 MB/s, respectively, with random read and write IOPS reaching up to 700K and 800K.
The inclusion of Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology allows for optimized performance without the need for DRAM, facilitating quicker game loading times and swift access to large files.
Power efficiency is another key improvement in the 990 EVO, offering up to 70% better energy efficiency compared to the 970 EVO Plus. This enhancement extends PC usage time without the worry of battery drain. The SSD also incorporates Modern Standby mode for instant on/off functionality, maintaining internet connectivity and seamless notification reception in low-power states.
