The iconic horror figure Chucky, known from the ‘Child’s Play’ franchise and the recent television adaptations on USA & SYFY in the United States and STACKTV in Canada, is set to join the assemblage of antagonists in the popular video game ‘Dead by Daylight.’
Behaviour Interactive, in partnership with Universal Products and Experiences, has announced the launch of a new chapter featuring the character on November 28. Ahead of the release, a public test build is available on Steam, providing a glimpse into the new gameplay mechanics introduced by the notorious doll.
Bill Kispert, Senior Vice President and General Manager at Universal Games and Digital Platforms, acknowledged the anticipation from the ‘Dead by Daylight’ community for Chucky’s inclusion. He expressed enthusiasm for the convergence of Chucky’s presence in both the game and the current television series.
Mathieu Côté, Head of Partnerships at Behaviour Interactive, shared initial skepticism about integrating Chucky into the game, citing the character’s diminutive size. However, the development team’s innovation has allowed for the character’s full incorporation, promising players an engaging addition to the multiplayer horror gaming experience.
In-game, Chucky’s small stature belies his lethal capabilities. The character comes to life with voice work from Brad Dourif, the original actor behind Chucky’s menacing tone.
The design leverages Chucky’s height as both a challenge and an asset; while it may hinder certain actions, it also affords him unique abilities such as the ‘Slice & Dice’ and ‘Scamper’ skills, enhancing his predatory edge in the game.
Moreover, Chucky’s presence in ‘Dead by Daylight’ is augmented by various add-ons, drawing from memorable moments in the film series, adding depth and authenticity to the gaming experience.
The game design team, including Jason Guzzo, has worked to integrate Chucky into the game’s array of killers, adding an element of surprise and dark humor through both gameplay and his infamous one-liners.
Additionally, players will have options to customize the killer doll with various outfits, including a nod to the Bride of Chucky, featuring voice work from Jennifer Tilly. These customizable options provide an added layer of engagement and personalization to the gaming experience.
The ‘Dead by Daylight: Chucky Chapter’ aims to deliver a chilling and immersive experience across all supported gaming platforms (PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, PC, Android & iOS) come its release at the end of November.
