JRPG Worthwhile Sales Alert – Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, And Many More!

This month’s sales are themed as JRPG and I myself am excited to see what I could get my hands on any JRPGs that I’ve missed. Here are some of the titles that may pique your interest.

Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition

But before mentioning others, the first JRPG I would highly recommend purchasing Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition that is currently priced at 25.99USD or 109.85MYR (35% off) on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 with the offer ending on March 30th, 2022.

Additionally, the PC Steam offers the same discounted price that will be ending earlier on March 25th, 2022. As I recall, this is a rare opportunity as this series doesn’t normally offer discounts.

In my opinion, this offers a fresh new life into the old school RPG genre, addictive grinding, and a surprisingly lengthy main quest with good storytelling and in the good company of an interesting band of characters. In terms of RPG grinding alone, the enemy NPC’s design is well-rounded and bubbly overall with a mild bobblehead swag, making them pleasant to look at and killed with different death animations. Packed with decent voice acting, minigames, lush explorative environment, as well as mounting enemies monsters; Dragon Quest also adds up with accessible menus as well as changing levelled-up skills at any time via Rectification in churches and turning the overall gameplay into 2D pixel form.

While there are many deals now on Steam that will last till March 22nd, here are some JRPGs that are well worth mentioning and title’s you should check out if you haven’t already.

    Yakuza Like a Dragon

Priced at $32.99 or 125.95MYR (45% Off), Yakuza Like a Dragon’s bold creative approach blends in classic JRPG gameplay turn-based elements of Dragon Quest into modern Japan while retaining the dark humor elements of the storyline, solid graphics animation, good music score, voice acting, and loads of minigames to offer akin to the Yakuza series. Like any JRPG series, you can even change to unconventional job classes at the job center (For real?!) ranging from a homeless, breakdancer, host, bodyguard, idol, and more with their own special attacks as well such as throwing rice to attract pigeons to attack your enemies.

    Scarlet Nexus

Priced at $23.99 or RM71.60MYR (60% Off), Scarlet Nexus is an intriguing blend of pure anime and fast-paced action, featuring great graphics and visual effects in a modern cyberpunk Japan setting. While combat gameplay is high-speed, the combos are executed fluidly in a stylishly fun manner.

Check out our review of Scarlet Nexus on the PS5 if you are interested to know more.

The demo version is available on Steam to try it out before making a purchase. If interested, you can even opt to watch the anime version of this game without twiddling your thumbs.

    Ys IX: Monstrum Nox

Priced at $47.99 or RM82.39 (20% Off), a fun simple fast-paced hack and slash formula JRPG with unique character movesets and fun exploration that boasts freely jumping and warping zipline across the massive city to get loots. Although Ys IX has accessible difficulty settings, swappable damage stats, and a decent music score, its graphic textures feel dated with hard-to-hit flying enemies that justify this current sale. But nevertheless, it is still a fun ride experience.

    Grandia HD Remaster

Priced at $9.99 or RM19.50 (50% Off), this definitely hits a home run in my childhood books and if you haven’t tried this yet – you are definitely missing out on one of the best storytelling, solid paced, genre-defining turn-based combat that tactically delays enemies turns based on the special attacks you dish out. While the graphics are dated even though it’s remastered with noticeable blurry textures; it still oozes out the charm from the unique cast of characters with their cheesy voice lines alongside their expressive UI portrait embarking on a lively adventure.
