The HUAWEI Mate Xs 2 uses a superior architecture solution for its frame, hinge, and screen support components to reduce its weight.
Based on its previous experience in designing foldable phones, the brand managed to apply appropriate structures to the right places to achieve optimal mechanical and electromagnetic performance. The optimal minimalist design is achieved through a streamlined hinge mechanism and cellular-shape screen support.
Streamlined hinge mechanism: Weight was reduced by replacing high-density hinge material with lower density material, as commonly done for other non-movable components. Furthermore, hinges contain a wide range of parts, and it is necessary to simplify the folding mechanism and minimize the number of components in a hinge. The next-generation metal injection molding (MIM) ultra-light high strength steel is used for key parts of the hinge of the HUAWEI Mate Xs 2. At the same time, the density of the material is made as low as possible. The number of key parts on the hinge is reduced by 35% compared with the previous generation, making an extremely minimalist design possible.
Cellular-shape screen support: The HUAWEI Mate Xs 2 uses a cellular-shape screen support structure to reduce weight without sacrificing reliability.
3D Fiberglass process: HUAWEI innovatively applies the 3D Fiberglass process to the battery cover, producing textures with a thickness of less than 0.5 mm by means of hot pressing.
