Magic: The Gathering Unveils Duskmourn: House of Horror—A Terrifying Journey Awaits

Malaysia, 24 September 2024 – Wizards of the Coast has announced the launch of prerelease events for the highly anticipated Duskmourn: House of Horror, the latest set in the world-famous trading card game Magic: The Gathering (MTG). The new set introduces players to the eerie and unsettling plane of Duskmourn, a retro horror-inspired world where danger lurks behind every door. Players are challenged to navigate Duskmourn’s ever-changing halls as they attempt to survive its numerous horrors. The official tabletop release is set for 27 September 2024.

The new set weaves together a compelling narrative centered around Nashi, the son of Planeswalker Tamiyo, who has mysteriously disappeared, leaving only a cryptic recording behind. A rescue squad, including Niko, Tyvar, The Wanderer, Zimone, and Kaito, is dispatched to follow his last-known steps through Duskmourn, confronting unspeakable horrors along the way.

    New Exciting Gameplay

Duskmourn: House of Horror features new gameplay mechanics that reflect the haunted house theme, including:

    • Room cards: Enchantments representing different locations within the haunted house. Players must choose which door to open first, releasing the surprises that await.
    • Manifest dread: This mechanic allows players to instill fear in opponents by manipulating cards on their deck to create powerful creature threats.
    • Impending: A mechanic tied to mythic ‘Overlord’ cards, adding tension as players must wait for powerful creatures to be released after a set number of turns.
    • Survival: Creatures that trigger abilities if they survive until the end of the combat phase, offering rewards for strategic play.
    • Eerie: An ability that activates when enchantments or rooms are unlocked, further enhancing gameplay.
    • Delirium and Glimmer: Returning and new mechanics that add depth and complexity to the set.

Full Art Lands, Paranormal Frame, Double Exposed, Mirror Monster & Showcase!

Players can also expect visually stunning elements, including the Full Art Manor Lands and Paranormal Frame cards, which pay homage to classic retro horror imagery. These cards are designed to evoke both the eerie beauty and terrifying nature of Duskmourn’s ever-shifting environment.

In addition, the set includes special collectible items such as the Double Exposure and Mirror Monster cards, which will be available in textured foil versions. Fans of Japanese artwork will be excited to discover rare Japanese Showcase cards, featuring art from celebrated illustrators like Silent Hill’s creature designer, Masahiro Ito, who has contributed a special guest card for the set.

Alongside the prerelease event, Magic: The Gathering will release various booster packs, Commander decks, and bundles, including a limited-edition Nightmare Edition bundle set to launch on 18 October 2024.
