Developer 1047 Games has announced the return of Splitgate or to be more precise, Splitgate 2. Splitgate was an arena shooter that felt like HALO, with portal mechanics from Valve’s Portal game. The game was a hit when it launched in 2021 but had its limitations and also had little updates which had an impact on the game’s longevity.
Luckily Splitgate was a financial success and has received investors enough to start working on Splitgate 2. The game will still be a free-to-play first-person shooter with cosmetics microtransactions. It will be 4 versus 4, player versus players with portals. What is new in Splitgate 2 are three new factions each tailored to a different gameplay style or strategy.
Starting today, fans can download a Splitgate 2 Companion App in the Apple App Store or Google’s Play Store, which includes a free digital comic series developing the lore of the universe, quizzes, collectable digital cards, and other activities. And 1047 is planning for a community play test later this year, sometime around Gamescom.
Splitgate 2 is set to be released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC sometime in 2025. For more news regarding Splitgate, you can read up on the developer interview at PlayStation’s Blog post
