Sony Unveils The PlayStation 5’s New ‘DualSense’ Wireless Controller and It’s an Absolute Beaut!

After coming out to the world on the PlayStation 5’s system architecture less than a month ago, Sony has finally given us a visual glimpse of their next-gen console (at least one part of it), the new Sony PlayStation 5’s DualSense wireless controller.

According to their announcement on the PlayStation Blog, Sony has already started sending out the new controllers to game developers so that they may make use of the new controller’s unique new features.

The current DualShock 4 (DS4) controllers on the PlayStation 4 have earned a lot of praise for being decisively the best PlayStation controllers to date, based on the positive feedback and praises by both the gaming community and game developers. The new DualSense controller has a huge wall to overcome and Sony’s latest announcement seems to suggest nothing short of absolute confidence in surpassing the DS4.

While most of the DS4 functions are retained, the new DualSense controller comes armed with several new addition and updates that distinguished itself from its predecessor. Here are the key differences between the new DualSense and the old DS4.

    • The DualSense Controller comes with Haptic Feedback that adds a variety of sensations in the gaming experience. E.g driving through a mud produces a slow grittiness feel.
    • Adaptive Triggers are incorporated into the R2 and L2 trigger buttons, giving a more realistic experience on the pull tension. E.g like when a bow is drawn to shoot an arrow.
    • The angle of the hand triggers has been changed.
    • Slight updates to the grip.
    • ‘Share’ button has been replaced with the new ‘Create’ button.
    • Built-in microphone array that allows the user to participate in voice chat without using a headset.
    • The new DualSense controller has a double colour tone, as opposed to the traditional single colour.
    • The Led light has been moved from the top of the touchpad to the sides.

The new ‘Create’ button has replaced the DS4’s Share button. The new function allows for content creation before publishing/sharing. More information on this will come later.

So, after going through several concepts and rejecting hundreds of mockup design, Sony has arrived at this design here for their next-gen charge. Will the PlayStation 5 too come in a dual colour tone? That remains to be seen! More information about the new controller and the PlayStation 5 itself will be unveiled in the coming months, according to Sony. Stay tuned and stay safe!
