South Korea’s largest mobile messaging app operator, Kakao, has awarded a contract worth HK$31.2 million to Global Telecom or GT to build up a new cloud solution for their upcoming venture. Global Telecom is a wholly-owned subsidiary by Future Data Group Limited, a company that has been listed on the GEM Board of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited since 2016.
“Kakao has been a long-term customer of the Group. In the past, we have helped build a network infrastructure for Kakao’s mobile messaging app, and extended our relationship to support Kakao’s virtual banking,”
David Lee – CEO of the Group
Following Kakao’s success in positioning itself as South Korea’s largest mobile messaging app, the virtual banking business has been their foremost focus.
Along after receiving the license from the government, Kakao looks to a viable solution and found GT’s proposal solution based on Arista Networks technology to be the most suited for the task. GT’s solution provides SDN-based high-performance and high-availability, using VXLAN/EVPN.
Kakao’s new Internet Data Center (IDC) aims to provide network services for Kakao Pay, Kakao Game, and Kakao Talk amongst others with stable services and lowest possible delay in the case of internet traffic congestion and stable support with the increase of user base.
In addition, there is also a network traffic distributed deep buffer switch and Ethernet switch capable of expanding capacity from a 40GE-based infrastructure to a large capacity of 100GE, based on the stability of existing automation systems.
As an added benefit, the EVPN not only provides flexibility but also scalability for automation implementation that integrates Kakao’s Cloud Vision Platform (CVP) and OpenStack support.
