Fntastic The Studio Behind Controversial Game The Day Before Announces Closure

To everyone’s surprise, it is revealed that Fntastic, the studio behind the long-awaited game The Day Before, has just announced its studio closure just 4 days after the game’s launch. This is my reaction to the news below.

Okay, all jokes aside, who didn’t see this coming? For those who are under a rock, The Day Before came out with a bang 2 years ago with one of the most jaw-dropping trailers which you can still watch from IGN below.

The trailer had it all with gameplay to boot which added credibility to the game. If 1 trailer was not enough, 1 month later, they released a short gameplay trailer with the publisher and developers giving a short message.

By this time, The Day Before has already been one of the most wish-listed games on Steam and on April 2021, they released a 13-minute gameplay trailer which looks incredible, to be honest with all its visuals and gameplay.

By now, people were starting to question if this was real or not as before this Fntastic was only known for the game Propnight which was also published by Mytona. The game was then hit by delays when it changed its supposed launch date from June 2022 to 1 March 2023 due to the developer’s planned switch from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5. Then on January 2023, The Day Before was taken down from Steam due to a trademark issue with the game’s name, claim developer Fntastic. This further pushed back the title to 10 November 2023.

On February 2023, a new 10-minute gameplay trailer was released for the game which showed the game receiving some graphical downgrades like Watchdogs and The Division which you can compare in the trailer below.

Fast forward to last week when finally, the game was released and many people and streamers downloaded and tried the game for the first time. The game cost 40 USD which is about RM187 and after playing a few hours of the game, refunds started pouring in. The game though playable, was littered with bugs and visual issues. People were starting to call The Day Before a scam and false advertising with it receiving mostly negative reviews on Steam a few hours after launch.

Well with all that, if you think that the game will be a flop then yes you are right. The Day Before lost 80% of its players in the first 3 days. If you think that is bad, Fntastic then released a statement that they are shutting down the studio today because of the game’s financial failure in a tweet.

They state that the future of The Day Before and the studio’s previous game Propnight remains unknown but the servers will remain operational for now. To spice things up, another open-world survival horror MMO DayZ released a parody statement on X.

As of the writing of this article, The Day Before is still available to download and play if some of you would like to try it (For whatever reasons I guess). What do you think about The Day Before? Is it a scam or did the developer really try to make a successful game? Let us know what you think in the comment section below on our website, Facebook or Instagram.

Edit: The Day Before is now unable to be purchased from Steam but the game is still there in Early Access.
