Gearbox Software and 2K have revealed its future plans for Borderlands 3 just in time to celebrated its one year anniversary. The game will receive full next-gen support, a new skill tree for each Vault Hunter, additional co-op features and more.
Starting out, it is confirmed that Borderlands 3 will be coming to both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Those who have already purchase the current-gen version of the game on Xbox One or the PlayStation 4 both will receive a free upgrade of the game for the Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5 respectively. This applies to all content you’ve purchased, as well as all your saves. You’ll be able to bring everything over to the new console generation.

The next-gen version will be able to run at 60 frames per second in 4K resolution on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 on single-player games. There will be two highly requested features added to the local co-op features, free for all players. For the first time ever, you will be able to play four-player split-screen and if you are playing with only two-player co-op, you can choose between vertical or horizontal split-screen. The vertical and horizontal split-screen option will also be made available for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions.

Borderlands 3 will also receive additional add-on content later this year. The next paid add-on will include a new game mode, as well as one new skill tree for each Vault Hunter. Each new skill tree will also come with its own Action Skills.

During the Gearbox PAX Digital Showcase, Gearbox gave viewers an in-depth look at FL4K’s new “Trapper” skill tree. This skill tree emphasizes on the shields and survivability of FL4K and their pets. There is also a look at FL4K’s new Action Skill: Gravity Snare, a throwable trap that tosses enemies up into the air before slamming them back into the ground. Enemies caught in its radius will have their attacks interrupted, giving FL4K a crowd control skill for the first time.

FL4K will also receive a new pet option, a Hyperion Loaderbot. This Loaderbot can be specced in a variety of ways from a range-based ION Loader which fires slow-moving projectiles that creates powerful shock novas or a BUL Loader, which charges enemies and knocks them into the air with its shield. There is also a WAR Loader which packs an incendiary shotgun, can toss grenades, and unleashed homing missiles at command.
Borderlands 3 is available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Stadia and PC. Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 version will be available soon. You can view the full Gearbox PAX Digital Showcase below.
