Ubisoft has announced the global release of “Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora™,” now available on Ubisoft+, PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, Amazon Luna, and PC via Ubisoft Connect.
Developed by Massive Entertainment, a Ubisoft Studio, in collaboration with James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment and Disney, this first-person standalone adventure is set in the Avatar universe, coinciding with the timeline of the Avatar films. It is built on the latest version of the Snowdrop engine.
Magnus Jansen, the creative director at Massive, emphasized the immersive experience of “Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora,” highlighting the game’s detailed soundscape and reactive open world. The game was developed in close partnership with the Avatar filmmakers to ensure an authentic extension of the Avatar universe, providing players with a new setting and story.
Jon Landau, the producer of Avatar, noted the richness of the Avatar world and the opportunity for storytelling beyond the films. This collaboration with Massive Entertainment allows fans to explore new areas of Pandora and take on the role of a Na’vi.
Luigi Priore, VP of Disney, Pixar, and 20th Century Games, expressed excitement about the partnership and the unique gaming experience it offers. Brenda Panagrossi, Vice President of Global Brand at Ubisoft, added that the game is an expansive and immersive adventure that fans of Avatar and action-adventure games will enjoy.
Set in the Western Frontier, a previously unexplored continent on Pandora, players will encounter new Na’vi clans, flora, and fauna. The game features a single-player mode and an online two-player co-op option. Players take on the role of a Na’vi who was raised away from their culture and must now protect Pandora from the return of the RDA corporation.
The gameplay includes mastering Na’vi skills, using traditional weapons, and bonding with a banshee for aerial combat. Players can customize their character and gear, including their banshee companion.
PlayStation players will get free access to the Aranahe Warrior Pack, and season pass owners will have additional content. The Ultimate Edition on Ubisoft+ includes the season pass, a digital artbook, and other cosmetic packs.
The game’s original soundtrack, composed by Pinar Toprak, will be available for streaming and purchase on December 8.
