AMD Expands Its Commercial AI Offerings with Enhanced Performance for Mobile and Desktop Systems
AMD has launched a series of products aimed at broadening its commercial AI PC portfolio, setting new standards in productivity and AI capabilities for business users. The announcement includes the AMD Ryzen™ PRO 8040 Series for business laptops and the AMD Ryzen™ PRO 8000 Series desktop processors, which are the first AI-enabled desktop processors designed specifically for the enterprise market. These innovations are designed to harness low power consumption while delivering top-tier performance.
The Ryzen™ PRO 8040 Series, touted as the most sophisticated x86 processors to date, are crafted for high-performance business laptops and mobile workstations. These processors feature up to 16 NPU TOPS (Trillions of Operations Per Second) for dedicated AI processing, significantly more than previous generations. This enhancement enables superior performance for AI-driven tasks such as collaboration, content creation, and data analysis.
AMD’s integration of Ryzen™ AI in select models marks a further step in cementing its leadership in AI-enhanced computing. The combination of CPU, GPU, and a dedicated on-chip neural processing unit (NPU) allows for a robust processing ecosystem that optimizes both efficiency and computing power.

The AMD Ryzen PRO 8040 Series processors, equipped with advanced 4nm technology and “Zen 4” architecture, deliver up to 30% greater performance for demanding applications compared to their predecessors. These are coupled with AMD’s RDNA™ 3 graphics, enabling up to 72% faster performance and up to 84% less power consumption in video conferencing scenarios compared to competitors like the Intel Core Ultra 7 165U. Additionally, these processors are pioneering within the industry by integrating WiFi-7 technology, pushing forward new connectivity standards.
The top-tier AMD Ryzen™ 9 PRO 8945HS leads the pack with eight cores and 16 threads, backed by 24MB of cache and Radeon™ 780M graphics. This setup is particularly suited for heavy-duty tasks such as 3D rendering, video encoding, and photo editing, making it a powerhouse for technical computing and multimedia content creation.
AMD anticipates the availability of the Ryzen PRO 8040 Series mobile processors through OEM partners such as HP and Lenovo starting in the second quarter of 2024.

In an innovative leap forward for desktop computing, AMD has unveiled the Ryzen PRO 8000 Series, the first business desktop processors integrated with a dedicated AI engine. This groundbreaking series redefines efficiency and performance in the corporate sector, offering up to eight high-performance “Zen 4” cores manufactured using advanced 4nm process technology.
The AMD Ryzen PRO 8000 Series processors are designed to meet the high demands of modern business environments, boosting productivity through improved speed and power efficiency. For example, the AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 8700G processors have shown up to a 47% increase in performance and three times the graphics performance in select benchmarks when compared to the Intel Core i7 14700 processor.
These processors are at the cutting edge of technology, supporting DDR5 memory and PCIe® 4.0, which significantly enhances data transfer rates, ensuring smoother workflows and faster access to critical applications and data. During this year’s HP Amplify Partner Conference, HP introduced a wide array of commercial systems powered by AMD, including the HP EliteBook 805 and 605 Series G11 Notebook PCs, HP ProBook 405 Series G11 Notebook PCs, and various desktop configurations like the HP Elite Small Form Factor 805 G9 Desktop PC and the HP ZBook series.
