AESF Announces the AESF University Championship 2021 To Take Place In Shanghai

Following the formation of the University Championship Organising Committee (UCOC), the Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF) announced that the upcoming inaugural AESF University Championship 2021 – Grand Final will now take place in the Jinshan District of Shanghai, China PR in mid-2021. Announced at the China Digital Entertainment Expo & Conference, also known as ChinaJoy last week, this announcement comes following fruitful discussions with the Jinshan District of Shanghai and event organizer Duo Sports Group (DSG).

All in line with the AESF’s commitment to growth and development of Esports in the region at the grassroots level, the game titles and the tournament structure of the AESF University Championship 2021 will be further discussed and confirmed during the committee meeting of the UCOC.

    Objective
This is AESF’s first step in establishing an Esports development ecosystem at every level. Based on the outcome of the inaugural AESF University Championship, tournaments of similar structure but at different levels of participation such as high schoolers and semiprofessionals may take place in the near future.

Director-General of the AESF, Sebastian Lau

“Without having to wait for regional sporting events like the Asian Games or the SEA Games to witness the best each country has to offer to compete against one another, the AESF University Championship acts as a platform to showcase talent, and hopefully, a stepping stone for something bigger – on a more global scale – in the near future.”
“To achieve this, the AESF alongside the University Championship Organizing Committee
will form a streamlined competition structure which includes national, regional and continental levels. As additional support, we will be working closely with game publishers and licensors directly to ensure smooth organization and professional-level execution of the
tournament on all levels of competition.”
Mr. Sebastian Lau – Director General of the ASEF

The AESF University Championship will be placed under the guidance and leadership of the President of AESF, Mr. Kenneth Fok, and led by the University Championship Organizing Committee (UCOC) which is Chaired by Mr. Hideki Okamura who is also the Chairman of the Japan Esports Union (JeSU).

Upon the UCOC’s confirmation of the game titles, tournament structure, date, and venue, the AESF welcomes all members of the AESF to participate in the AESF University Championship 2021 with the common goal of nurturing our talents at the grassroot level.

Taking it a few steps further, this would be AESF’s first step in establishing an Esports development ecosystem at every level and based on the outcome of the inaugural AESF University Championship, tournaments of similar structure but at different levels of participation such as high schoolers and semi-professionals may take place in the near future.
