In the world of eSports, any other person who has continuously engaged themselves in competitive gaming would know the magnitude of which Dota 2 brings to the eSports table. It was the staple center of attention when eSports became widely known years ago.
When The International, an official Dota 2 tournament, was announced by Valve themselves, many teams jumped on the opportunity to battle it out with other teams for a stake of a community-driven prize money pool. In recent years, many teams have since come a long way to become champions of each TI that has taken place.
In 2018, TI8 took place in Canada, where we saw big names such as Team Liquid, Evil Geniuses, PSG, Fnatic and many more. But among all of these teams, one team stood out in their efforts of going all out in this tournament and taking home first place.
They are none other than OG. Partnering with Red Bull, they are officially known as Red Bull OG, and this is their underdog story, through the aspects of a documentary named “Against the Odds”.

Red Bull Product of Europe unveiled Against the Odds, a groundbreaking new documentary that captures one of the most exciting moments in esports history, Red Bull OG’s monumental victory at The International 2018 (TI8).
Malaysia was chosen for the official screening location of the documentary as the Red Bull OG team will be bootcamping here before defending their title in TI9, dated August 20-25th. Upon choosing Malaysia, Sundstein remarks:
“We’re really impressed with the talents that you guys have here in Malaysia.
The infrastructure and the talent at the grassroot level are all in place to ensure that Malaysia will be next
esports regional powerhouse. Malaysia has a proven track record of hosting big esports events and you have
a forward thinking government that has thrown its support for the industry which is fantastic. We’re positive
Malaysia is fast becoming a major force in the eSports arena.”
Red Bull OG’s tale during their TI8 run wasn’t only filed with competitive fuel and unhinged tactics, but also tell’s us a cinderella tale of how an underdog team that faced a myriad of problems and how they overcame this. This was a story that became a universal appeal.
In addition to the screening, media rep’s were treated to an exclusive Q&A session with Red Bull OG. Johan “N0tail” Sundstein. Fan’s of the team were given the opportunity for a meet and greet session with their heroes after the debut screening. Fan’s who were lucky enough were given the chance to have their photo’s taken with Red Bull OG before wishing them goodluck for the upcoming TI9 tournament that is just around the corner.
The eSports industry has been booming in Malaysia in the recent years, and as a result, has garnered attention of international eyes and is showing no sign of slowing down.
